Food Drive Check List
-
Create a theme.
Many groups run their drive in connection with a
special event or holiday celebration.
- Set a date for your food drive.
Two weeks is usually about right. Shorter food drives need to be very well publicized to be effective.

- Publicize!
Posters, flyers, emails and newsletter articles are all
effective ways to let people know the details. Provide people with a contact
within your organization who can answer questions. YRFN can also send a speaker
to talk about issues of hunger to your organization.
- Post a recommended food donation list.
YRFN can provide you with a list of food items that are currently in short supply. Also remind donors to
check expiry dates and make sure that only non-perishable food items are donated.
- Plan ahead for delivery arrangements.
The food banks in York Region are small operations, run by volunteers. They are always most appreciative when
you can arrange to deliver the food directly to them. If pick-up is required, please make arrangements well in advance.
How Can You Help?
Please support York Region Food Network and your local food bank with a
monetary or food donation. York Region's food banks operate with little or no
government funding and rely on donations from the
community to support the needy in our community.
